Frances Wells
Frances Wells has been making pots for many years. Coming from an Artistic family she attended art classes at the V&A, Whitechapel Art Gallery and Camberwell Art School. After joining Pottery classes at Adult Ed she was bitten by the bug and undertook a City and Guilds Ceramics course. She then set up her own studio in Sevenoaks Kent and spends time developing ideas and making pots. Her work is in Raku, Stoneware and Porcelain and is inspired by nature. Her Stoneware and Porcelain creations are thrown and handbuilt and fired in an electric kiln to 1260° Centigrade making them Dishwasher, freezer and garden proof. Her Raku pots are thrown in a more resilient clay and fired in a Raku kiln to approx 1000° C when it is opened and the red hot pots are then placed in bins and covered with sawdust. These Raku pots either have a white crackle or copper glaze or a resist slip for naked Raku with the unglazed areas going black. Due to the low temperature these are for decorative purposes only.
